What happens to each page
Each capture is drawn onto a canvas in this tab. Straightening estimates the angle of the text lines (it tries small rotations and keeps the one where rows of dark pixels line up best) and rotates the page by that amount. Grayscale removes colour casts from indoor light and usually makes the file smaller.
The camera stream never leaves the page: the browser shows its own camera indicator while it is on, and the stream stops when you leave or press Stop. Captured pages are JPEG images inside the PDF, so a signed page keeps its ink exactly as the camera saw it.
USCIS asks for a handwritten signature on forms filed by mail or as PDF uploads; a camera scan of the signed page is a common way to prepare that upload. Check the agency’s own instructions for your form.
Steps
- Allow the camera (or add photos you already took).
- Capture each page; retake or reorder as you go.
- Choose grayscale and straightening.
- Save the PDF, then compress it for a portal if needed.
Limits, stated plainly
- Straightening corrects small tilts (up to about 8°), not perspective from a steep angle; hold the camera flat over the page.
- There is no automatic page-edge cropping yet; fill the frame with the page.
