Simple signatures vs digital signatures
This tool makes a simple electronic signature: an image of your signature placed on the page. In the US, the ESIGN Act (15 U.S.C. §7001) says a signature may not be denied legal effect solely because it is electronic, and many everyday documents are signed this way. Whether a particular recipient accepts it is up to them.
A digital signature is different: it uses a certificate to seal the file so any later change is detectable. This tool does not create certificate signatures.
Some documents must be signed in ink. USCIS, for example, requires a handwritten signature on paper and PDF-upload filings; for those, print, sign, then scan.
Steps
- Add the PDF.
- Draw, type or upload a signature (or use one saved on this device).
- Click the page where it goes; resize it.
- Download the signed PDF.
Limits, stated plainly
- No certificate-based (digital) signatures.
- Typed signatures use a cursive-style system font if your device has one, otherwise a serif italic.
