Form I-90 is the application to renew or replace a Permanent Resident Card (green card). Lawful permanent residents use it when a 10-year card is expiring or has expired, or when the card was lost, stolen, damaged, issued with an error, or needs updating after a legal name change or on reaching age 14. Conditional permanent residents with two-year cards can use it to replace a card, but not one that is expired or will expire within 90 days; they file Form I-751 (or I-829) to remove conditions instead. The application type in Part 2 decides the evidence. USCIS lists I-90 for guided online filing, which many people use to avoid paper.

Two-year card ending soon?

Conditional residents whose status expires within 90 days cannot use I-90; they file I-751 (through marriage) or I-829 (investment) to remove conditions.

“Conditional permanent residents may not use this application to replace, for any reason, an existing Permanent Resident Card that is expired or will expire within 90 days.”

Why our filler is off for this form: USCIS says its forms are optimized for Adobe Acrobat Reader, and part of this PDF is read-only by design (copied headers, barcodes, signature boxes). We turn our fill on per form only after the output re-opens in Acrobat Reader with every value intact and a matching barcode. Until then, Adobe Reader on a computer is the free tool USCIS points to.
